BIKE TO WORK, Cycling: an alternative and positive transport solution!

For this first day of the European Mobility Week, IMS Luxembourg has invited its member companies to share a bike ride and celebrate this healthy and environmentally friendly way to get to work.

Mobility is an important issue for companies in Luxembourg: 73% of commuting is by car (Luxmobil, 2017). Traffic congestion, known to all, is an undeniable source of stress and fatigue. At the same time, it is an ecological concern: transport is the main cause of global warming, accounting for 64% of CO2 emissions in the Grand Duchy. (Assessment of climate change policies in the context of the European Semester, country report Luxembourg, Ecologic Institute).

This is why IMS Luxembourg wanted to mobilize its network of companies to raise awareness and set an example by offering employees the opportunity to share a two-wheeled journey before going to their workplace. The start of the journey is from Luxembourg Station. Thanks to a partnership with the city of Luxembourg and JC Decaux, Vel'Oh! were made available to those who were not equipped. A stopover was organised in front of the Grand Théâtre where participants were able to receive information and goodies from the Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ (LVI) and the Verkéiersverbond, also proposing actions throughout this European-scale event.
In a spirit of conviviality, and in the presence of François Bausch, minister of Mobility and Public Works who also came by bike, the procession pedaled towards the Ministry located in the Kirchberg district.

The procession was followed by a conference on the theme "Encouraging cycling: incentives for behaviour change and opportunities offered by the new bicycle services" by Marion Lagadic and Nicolas Louvet of Bureau 6t, a design office specialising in mobility issues. On this occasion, IMS was able to present the first chapters of a guide on mobility, aimed at encouraging and supporting companies in the implementation of alternatives to the all-car system by promoting soft and multimodal mobility. Publication is expected in early October 2019.
