Spirit Day, an anti-bullying campaign

Sustainable News

The United Nations Free & Equal Campaign is partnering with GLAAD to celebrate Spirit Day and the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and intersexual (LGBTI) youth are more likely to be intimidated, abused, or isolated than their peers. As such, they are more likely to drop out of school, suffer from depression, and make suicide attempts.

Spirit Day is the most massive and most visible LGBTI anti-bullying campaign in the world. To join it you can:

  • Wear something purple today and share a selfie on social networks.
  • Learn about the human rights concerns of LGBTI youth.
  • Change your profile photo to Spirit Day Violet.
  • Share and broadcast the new campaign video to engage in a conversation about LGBTI people's right to equality with your friends and family.
  • Make it known as widely as possible that you are an ally of LGBTI youth - not just on Spirit Day, but every day.
