IMS presents its new practical guide about corporate gardens « Corporate Gardens »

Urban agriculture is a concept in full expansion throughout the world, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is determined to position itself as a pioneer in this field by adopting a national strategy dedicated to Urban Farming.

An integral part of urban farming, corporate gardening is its application to companies. As a carrier of circular and sustainable values, corporate gardening is an innovative solution to rethink the workplace, promote well-being and reduce the company's carbon footprint. The most ambitious projects can also provide organizations with local food and enhance buildings in an original way. The corporate garden is based on the "biophilia hypothesis" which maintains that humans, consciously or unconsciously, are attracted by nature and living things. This is increasingly successful in the field of interior design, in order to improve the working environment and the offices that welcome employees on a daily basis.

As co-editor of the national strategy, IMS considered it important to raise awareness among its member organisations of the practice of urban agriculture in general and corporate gardening in particular. This is why IMS Luxembourg has written a new guide on the subject and made it public on Tuesday 26 November at the IFSB premises and in front of about forty participants from the worlds of business, education, municipalities and ministries and European administrations.

For this occasion, IMS has surrounded itself with local actors already involved in the subject in order to come and testify and exchange their experiences in this field:

  • Laurent Zeimet, mayor of Bettembourg mentioned the initiatives in his commune as well as the importance of the involvement of public and private parties on the subject.
  • Loris Spina, 1st alderman of Dudelange presented the initiative of educational and community gardens of the commune;
  • Bruno Renders, CEO of the CDEC (Conseil pour le Développement Economique de la Construction) was able to present the main lines of the national Urban Farming strategy supported by the CDEC.

IMS then presented its "Corporate Gardens" guide and its objectives: to raise awareness among its members of corporate gardening, and its many benefits, as well as to inspire innovative and useful practices for companies, employees and the environment through the best practices presented. The conference then ended with a visit to the 60 m2 greenhouse on the roof of the IFSB, a key player in sustainable construction in Luxembourg.

In addition to the publication of the guide, IMS Luxembourg hopes to set up inter-company working groups on the subject in 2020 to launch pilot projects.
