The aim is to make Luxembourg a forefront country of the single-use plastic fight. The Minister of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Carole Dieschbourg, actively supports IMS Luxembourg in the fight against single-use plastic and invites companies to join the movement.
An ambitious collective challenge
The protection of the environment, the preservation of resources and the fight against waste are fully in line with government policy and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development is currently working on its “Null Offall Lëtzebuerg” strategy. Positive signals have been seen in companies since the launch of IMS Luxembourg’s Zero Single-Use Plastic Manifesto in September 2018. They are now 56 leaders committed to eradicate single-use plastics from their businesses by the end of 2020.
The issue of single-use plastic is a major issue in our modern societies and the support of companies is a decisive element in achieving this ambition. A reason why we have chosen to support the action of IMS and its programme dedicated to the limitation of single-use plastic through a framework convention.

We must fundamentally reconsider our use of plastic and the ambition goes beyond the European Union directive adopted on 21st May.
To make Luxembourg a forefront country of the single-use plastic fight, it is essential that this project be a collective challenge. IMS Luxembourg supports these companies through a collaborative methodology. Numerous working groups have been organised around the following themes: catering, office and housekeeping, events and communication.
Together, companies are thinking about solutions and are able to speak with one voice to make a difference to different stakeholders, including suppliers who can meet significant demand.
The next phase of the project will involve more in-depth discussions and collaboration with suppliers and workshops will be held again in the fall.
Thanks to the commitment of all the organizations that signed the manifesto, no less than 145 tons may be avoided each year - the equivalent of more than 2,000 kilometres of plastic waste put to the end.
The Zero Single-Use plastic Project launched by IMS Luxembourg is supported by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Environment Administration, SuperDrecksKëscht and Valorlux.
