Between 2011 and 2014, 83.5 millions of climate refugees, especially from Asia but also Africa and the Pacific, flew from natural disasters and took refuge in other countries. The UN forecasts 250 millions of climate refugees by 2050. While the topic of climate migration is quite new, it is essential to better understand it to find global solutions.
Save the date for an afternoon dedicated to “Migrations driven by climate change” taking place on Wednesday 25th January.
On the agenda:
- A lunch conference (from 12:15pm to 1:45pm), Rheinsheim room at the Altrimenti asbl (5 avenue Marie Thérèse, Luxembourg), with Dina Ionesco, specialist of migration issues due to environment and climate change at the International Organisation for Migrations in Geneva. The conference will be followed by a lunch.
- A seminar (from 4pm to 6pm), at Neimenster (Luxembourg Grund), on the same topic.
- A dinner (from 6pm) with Iraqi specialties cooked by chefs from la table du monde.?
- A conference debate (at 7:30pm), at Neimenster (Luxemborug Grund) with Dina Ionesco, Carole Diescbourg (Minister of Environment), Dietmar Mirkes (ASTM), and led by Nathalie Oberweis. The conference will go deeper than the seminar.
Both the seminar and the conference will be in French and a drink will then be offered by the Ministry of Environment. Finally, the Atlas of environmental migrations will be available for autographs during the day.
